Fruity Friday

FRUITY FRIDAY!

Fruity Friday every Friday 10p for a piece of fruit

October

October has been especially eventful with so many activities and visitors in school. Our excellent Friends' Association began the month in style organising a superb Michaelmas Ball on Saturday 3rd October at The Mercure Holland House Hotel. The food was wonderful, the music had everyone dancing and there was a brilliant auction compered by Derek Brockway of BBC weather fame.
Everone who came had a lovely evening - thank you to all who helped to arrange this! The thousands of pounds raised will be used to purchase equipment for the children.

Home School Project

Our Home School Project was on the
theme of Africa. As you come into the school
building now you will see all of the projects
on display. There are maps, drums and flags,
pictures of and stories about African animals,
an article about Nelson Mandela and much
much more. The work is colourful, exciting and links across many aspects of the curriculum: history, geography, music and science.

Cathedral Harvest Appeal

We were proud to support this
initiative which has raised a total
of £5,250. This is more than
enough to fund the new pig farm
in Zagyuri, a farming community in
Northern Ghana in the Anglican
Diocese of Tamale.

Nearly 200 pupils from Llandaff City or the Cathedral Sunday School entered the pig colouring competition – and you can see their work on display in a wonderful collage …. Who says pigs can’t fly? Well done to everyone, including the winners: Olivia Cridland, Jessica Tregoning, Sophie Parker and Catrin Thomas.

One World Week

Our One World Week celebrations culminated on 22nd October with a lovely evening of family entertainment. There was singing from different choirs and families in several languages and an interactive lecture from Professor Kevin Morgan of Cardiff University. There was drumming and dancing and even the first performance of our own Rock Band. During the interval parents provided an international buffet – delicious! Of course, the children had been preparing carefully during the week and the project continued onto the Friday with the opportunity for pupils to learn songs from Bollywood. We all learnt a great deal too about Fair Trade initiatives and their impact on local communities. Local organiser Miss Mary Wines has written to say:
‘I write to thank you all for the splendid event on 22nd October. Everyone present greatly appreciated your welcome and the preparatory work leading to the enthusiastic performances of the children. Professor Morgan was able to gear his talk to the big age range of his audience and the children’s questions afterwards proved they had been listening’.

Sponsored Bounce

On 9th October Llandaff City featured in the South Wales Echo as we held a Sponsored Bounce to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. This charity is especially important for us as three of our own pupils suffer from the debilitating condition. They are very brave children and we are proud of them.
Well done to everyone who supported us. Every child in the school participated throughtout the day and we raised more than £3,000 to fund scientific research.
